![]() From what I've heard it is excellent and a real bargain for the price. They'll get the job done but there is far better available for a small price.Īnyone looking towards a budget sim should head for FPV Air 2. If you are just dipping your toes or don't want to spend any money you should go for the free options like Hot Props or some of the demos. That being said some of you will still look towards cheaper options so here are my recommendations: Many people are unwilling to spend money on software and neglect it for something physical. Hopefully by now we have established that sims are an excellent tool that should be used and even the most expensive sims will improve your flying far more than any quad parts you could spend comparable money on. It will run the best sims on the lowest settings smooth enough but I would recommend something with a little more graphical power. Personally I use a 2016 Macbook Air for my sims. Some sims are even available for Android on the Google Play Store (FPV Freerider and Hotprops) ![]() If you are looking to push the boat out, look for a GTX1070 and pair it with a 144hz display.ĭifferent quad sims have different graphics requirements so pick one to suit your needs. No sim really uses cutting edge graphics but for the best experience you should look for a PC with a Nvidia GTX1050 or better. Some sims let you try them out before you buy to see if they are suitable however most sims list minimum specs that you should always follow.Īn underpowered machine will result in a low frame rate which will make flying far more difficult and frustrating. Using low settings some sims can run on basic machines with dedicated graphics cards and even some modern ones with integrated systems. Perhaps, though, nothing in MSFS should be intended to be a stand-in for real-world practice. Most sims are available for PC or Mac and a few are available for Android Devices. It might be helpful just as a vague approximate refresher and reminder of the maneuvers involved before giving it a go in real life, particularly if it’s been quite a few months since I last actually flew the drone around my house. Then by hooking my DJI controller up to the computer, practice flying my DJI drone in virtual reality around my house (even better if one could introduce different amounts of wind and wind variability). I guess some of the places with the best photogrammetry are not the places in the real world that you’re going to be allowed to fly a drone, e.g., downtown Manhattan, but you might certainly fly a small RC quadcopter drone around Monument Valley, which already exists in the sim in great detail.Īnother completely off-the-wall idea would be if there some way that I could reconstruct the exterior of my house and yard in ultra photogrammetric detail and introduce that imagery to my copy of MSFS. Maybe just as the Reno Air Races was added, there could be a gaming aspect or just a touring aspect at select world locations. I agree that detailed views the world over at ground level might be impractical but just as there are featured cities and cultural points of interest around the world in MSFS, perhaps drone flying at the scale of small remote-controlled quadcopters could be introduced in select areas around the world. Theoretically, sim graphics already existing should support higher aerial views from a drone cam. Maybe the sim graphics support is incompatible with detailed ground level views that one would have of vegetation and buildings while flying a quadcopter drone near ground level.
